Serves 4 to 6 pax
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Baking time: 40 minutes
Ingredients:
For the filling:
- 250g apples
- 2 tbsps soft brown sugar
- 1 tbsp plain flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
For the crumble:
- 150g plain flour
- 85g unsalted butter (cold-diced)
- 2 tbsps soft brown sugar
- 2 tbsps sliced almonds
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- For the filling: Peel and cut the apples into cubes or thick slices. Transfer the sliced apples into a 26cm-long oval dish. Add in the soft brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. Mix everything well using a spoon and ensure that all the sliced apples are coated with the sugar, flour and cinnamon. When done, set aside.
- For the crumble: Put the flour, butter and brown sugar into a mixing bowl. Using only your thumb and fingers, knead/rub in the butter. The mixture should look and feel like rough pale oatmeal.
- Add in the sliced almonds and mix everything up well using a spoon.
- Gently pour the crumble over the filling. Try to cover the edges of the dish as well.
- Bake for 40 minutes in the oven. The crumble should look golden brown and some of the apples’ juices will be seeping and bubbling out at the edges.
- Leave to stand for about 15 minutes to cool before serving. You may serve with some vanilla ice cream!
